The Kelso C-7 Preschool has been recognized by Missouri Accreditation as a model program that provides quality educational experiences which promote the respect and uniqueness of each child, family, staff member, and community while striving to prepare all children for the next step toward personal success.
Kelso C-7 Preschool Philosophy
At Kelso C-7 Preschool, the child is the center of the teaching and learning process. Guided by the most recent research about how and what young children learn best, we have developed the following philosophy:
Children learn best through active, meaningful, and hands on learning experiences. Our teachers are educated in child development, familiar with effective teaching strategies, and encourage children to participate in a variety of challenging classroom experiences. They strive to engage children in interesting age-appropriate activities, both individually, and in small and large groups.
All children have strengths and can contribute to their community. Kelso C-7 Preschool is committed to providing children with a sense of belonging. Our preschool is an inclusive environment for learning. Children of all backgrounds and abilities are valued and appreciated for the strengths and gifts they bring to the classroom and each other in learning.
Families play a vital role in their child’s education. Kelso C-7 Preschool provides a variety of opportunities to work together with families and involve them meaningfully in their child’s learning. Kelso C-7 Preschool sets the stage for a child’s success in Kelso C-7 School District. Kelso C-7 Preschool is committed to preparing children for kindergarten in an environment that increases their enthusiasm for learning.
Our Curriculum
Kelso C-7 Preschool has adopted Creative Curriculum as a foundational piece of our program. Creative Curriculum is a project-based early childhood curriculum designed to foster the development of the whole child through teacher-led small and large group activities. Creative Curriculum fosters curiosity and incorporates age-appropriate activities. Our teachers will plan activities based on weekly themes and child interest.
The Kelso C-7 Preschool curriculum outlines long range goals for children in all learning domains –
Social-Emotional, Cognitive, Motor, and Language.
Our goals will focus on the following:
● fostering positive lifelong attitudes toward learning
● social and self-regulation skills to engage in learning and function as members of a learning community
● development of children’s thinking, reasoning, decision making, and problem-solving abilities
● learning in all domains and provide opportunities to learn from caring adults and peers.
